Remington issues

My 700 5R has a factory twist of 1:11.25" and it loves the 168 and 175 Custom Comps with 44.0gr of Varget behind it.

That's surprising, because believe it or not, even though they are not the flagship of the Remington fleet, they usually shoot very well. I have two of them , one in 308, like yours, and also a 22-250. Both are 1/2 guns or better. My 308 loves 168 SMK, and also 175 SMK as well. I have shot, 110,150,165,168,175,185, and it shoots them all very well. Big green has had some issues, of recent, but somehow it seems that the SPS line of rifles haven't been effected. The barrel in these rifles, I believe contacts the very end of the forend. Maybe check your action screw torque. It should be about 35 inch / lbs. How doe the barrel feel when you run a patch through it?
Also, try seating your bullet at about 2.820 OAL. That should be near the sweet spot.

I have had the sane experience with several heavy barrel Remingtons. They also shoot this bullet with R15 and IMR 4895. 43 grains of any of these powders should work.

Replaced stock with b&c varmint - tactical and Leupold 1913 rail along with MK-4 rings and optics so I know it's not the top half

I had the same issue with an sps in 22-250 after filling my shelves with every make of bullet and powder I finally gave up I sent it to my smith and he is currently putting a new tube on it and blueprinting the action. I do know that it was only locking up on one lug and if I pushed a brush through it would almost get stuck 3/4 of the way down.

Well hoping I don't have to replace that, but if I do hart rifles is 40 minutes down the road. 8 month wait but it would shoot for sure after that. This rifle had an issue right from the factory, took it on a bear hunt in Canada. When I opened the gun case the entire rifle ( all the steel) was rusted. It wasn't like that when it went in. Sent it back to Illoin and the custom shop blasted and refinished it.

8 months isn't bad. My guy up here took 2 yrs smiths are far and few between. ...especially good ones.
