Remington 700 sps-v 243win questions
Hey guys, I witnessed this season how effective a well placed 105 berger is on whitetail deer from a 6 dasher and was shocked, the caliber is a serious killer. So I thought it would be cool to set up a 243win, Ive pretty well decided to start with a 700 varmint in 243 and swap the stock to maybe a bell&carlson and I should be good to go. To the guys that may have done somethimg like this are you getting good results? Im mainly going to focus on the 105 amax and the 105 berger, if the barrel will stabilize them. Are you guys shooting this sort of setup able to get the bigger bullets to shoot well? Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Remington 700 sps-v 243win questions
I'm not familiar with the twist in the 700 Remington chambered in 243, but I've found that a 1 in 7 or 1 in 8 performs the best in a 243 shooting heavier bullets. A .243 Catbird is my "go to" whitetail and muley cartridge shooting 107 Sierra Match Kings or Nosler Combined Technology 95's. Not a real good comparison for a straight .243 as the Catbird averages around 3850 fps, but has certainly made a believer out of me on 6mm rounds and deer hunting.

Remington website says 1-9 1/8 twist hopefully it would work. How do those 107 matchkings work on deer? Do they open up pretty good similar to a berger?

I've never had a problem with the expansion on the Match Kings, but don't make body shots often. Would doubt that over one or two of the last 30 or so deer have been anything other than neck shots and with the velocity of the Catbird they stay anchored in place. The 95 Nosler CT's have excellent expansion on the thick bodied hogs I've taken with it.

9 twist is not quite fast enough to shoot the 100+ grain bullets

Dang, I was hoping it would work, I wonder if it would sling the 95gr vld good? Have you guys had good luck with those in the 1-9 twist? I also thought I read about an 87gr vld aswell but havent looked it up yet. Thanks for the help so far guys, I appreciate it.
