If you need to change bolt head diameters I STRONGLY suggest PTG bolts (the rifle pic I posted is a PTG), they make outstanding products & are relatively inexpensive.
So I guess next question is: What do you intend to hunt?

Re: rem 700 build?
Good man! lol
My recommendation will start with the .264 mags & go up from there (the .264 being a little on the light side). Keep in mind the 300 Winchester was designed to operate from an '06 length action.
Do you reload?
What kind of distance do you intend to "whack" these critters?

Re: rem 700 build?
If you do reload and dont plan on shooting past 6-800 yards I would strongly recommend either a 280 Rem or straight 284 Win with a slight edge to the 284. Both have good ballistics with a great selection of high bc bullets. I built a 280 on a 700 action and really like it. Should also add 280 AI to the list.
