Rebarreling a Rem.?Best Caliber Choice?

I am planning on buying a used 22-250 Rem. SPF from a guy that has ran about 100 rounds threw it. The gun is not very old and in great shape. What I am thinking of doing is rebarreling it to a little faster cartridge. I have 2, 22-250's all ready but with the short action I now there are a bunch of choices I can go with. I would like to be able to shoot 55 grainers at about 3800 to 4000 feet a second.

Leaning toward the 22-250 Ackley. But not sure. What is Ya'lls opinion?

I dont think you will gain much shooting 55 gr bullets at 3800 or 4000 over the standard 22/250, i know thats faster but there is only so some much you can do with a 55 gr bullet. have you every looked at building somthing to shoot a longer more stream like bullet? I would say check it out I think you will find there is somthing to be said for going alittle slower with better flying bullets.
just somthing to think about, good luck.

Dust...you have two high-power 22's and you want to build another?

I agree with 338Legend. Consider something a little larger, with a better BC. For instance, consider the many .243/6mm caliber choices. Some of them shoot pretty fast, have great choices in bullets and with their high BC's will buck the wind at long range (read: 1k)

Ever think about re-barreling with about a 1/6" twist and shooting the 90 gr VLD's out of a 22-250? This is something that I've been interested in for a while now. My other choice would be something in a 6.5mm, such as a .260 Rem.

I think you can use a 1-7 twist for the 90 gr bullets. but I like the .243/6mm bullets better. the 107 and 115 gr bullets just fight the wind better.

+1 on Legend's comment

I'm also pretty sure he's right that 7 twist is fast enough to shoot the heavy 22cal bullets

You can actually rechamber the current barrel in 22chetah MKI and get the speed you are looking for. I have a 700 rem, was a 22-250 varment, I rebarreled it with a Hart barrel with a 1 in 16 twist. I burned it out on prarie dogs, rebarreled it with a Morrison 1 in 15 twist. Very fast.
