I am toying with the idea of rebarreling my Ruger M77 30-06 and have a question.I heard that I can order a barrel with a short chamber, install the barrel, then, usin a chamber reamer and headspace gauges, finish the chamber. Can this be done?

I know that the Ruger is not the best choice for a custom gun,I just like to tinker with things and like a heavy barrel.
