I have a Remington Sendero 300RUM that I can not get to shoot. I have tried factory, handloads, different scopes, you name it. Since I had nothing to lose, I even tried the Tubb Final Finish which did improvve by an inch. Frusterating when you know people who have the same gun and shot a half inch without even cleaning out of the box. So, I think I will rebarrel it with a quality barrel. Does anyone have advice on a good barrel? I am not afraid to spent the money, I just want it to shoot. I will be using the gun for long range hunting elk, deer, varmints. Any info on barrels, twists, lengths would be awesome.
I would recommend one of the following barrels, Lilja, Rock, Krieger, Broughton, ABS or Hart. This is from actual experience with fitting these brands to customers rifles.
Of these, I use Lilja for about 98% of all my customers rifles and about the same percentage for my personal rifles. All on the list are top end barrels but I use Lilja because he is in my home state and much quicker to get barrels from then other makers. ALso, they flat out shoot everytime!!
I would highly recommend having that Rem 700 fully accurized. Your rifle will only be as consistant as its weekest link and with a round such as the 300 RUM, everything needs to be perfect for consistant performance. There is no sense paying for a match quality barrel and to have it installed properly only to have your receiver be untrue and screw up your rifles potential. For the added cost of accurizing the receiver, its an investment well spent down the road.
The 300 RUM is a very accurate chambering when using a quality barrel, in a properly machined rifles. They just are not that difficult to get to shoot very well. There is certainly something wrong with your rifle.

I have a Sako 300WSM Finnlite with the same problem, only wants to shoot 1"-1 1/4" at best regardless of what you do. problem with this rifle as I see it is the amount of free bore! My Sako 300WM Hunter 75 would shoot 1/4" and would feed from the magazine with the cartridge OAL set to touching the lands. This finnlite won't even come close to the lands feeding from the magazine, has a mile of free bore same as my sons Tikka T3 lite. It's a real piss off to spend this kind of money on a rifle and get half assed performance. I have come to the conclusion you are better off building your own from scratch, MacMillan stock, Sako 75 action and your choice of decent barrel. I don't think it is going to cost you a dime more and it is virtualy a certainty it is going to be a shooter.
I have also decided to go with a custom gun anymore. My 300RUM Sendero is the second one I had. The first one shot a 3.5" group and luckily was replaced by Remington under warranty. A top end Remington rifle should have at least a 1.5" warranty, not 3.5". Well, at least I have a good builder. Thanks for the advice.
I'm currently having a Sako 75 customized with a Lilja barrel. This is my first experience with a premium custom barrel and I decided on the Lilja largely based on what I read on this site. Plus the folks doing the work, Hill Country Rifles, recommended them highly.
How bad does this rifle recoil? I had a 338WM win 70 that kicked so hard that it would bounce up off the bench at least six inches or higher. I know I wasn't flinching due to a buddy watching and also me being surpised by an empty chamber. This gun would not do any better than 5 or 6" at 200 yds. I tend to think that the severe jumping of the rifle at the shot adversely affected accuracy. How is your trigger? A good light crisp trigger does wonders as well.
I don't know if this is the case with your rifle, but just a thought. Having said that, I had a 700 LSS 30-06 that had been pillar bedded and floated and lapped by a competent gunsmith. I couldn't get that gun under 2" consistently at 100 yds. I had it rebarreled with a Shilen match grade #5 taper 30-06AI. It now shoots 1/2" or better at 100 yds.
Best of luck in your quest for accuracy with your 300RUM!
