rebarrel my remington or try a savage 111 lrh?

I have been back and forth on this several times with different guns. Here is my latest thought. do I rebarrel my remington 700 in 300 win or do i sell the remington and buy a savage 111 long range hunter in 300 win? the remington is prettier. but rebarreling will be about 700 dollars total. or i can sell it and add about 200 and get the savage. even though it is uglier. but out of the box accuracy should be fantastic. what do you guys think?

$700 to rebarrel ... OUCH :( ! Another vote for Savage.

BTW, I don't see anything ugly about any of the Savages. Below is my old trusty 111F in .300 WM. As seen all stock except for a Holland QD MB (2003) and RB trigger (2007). Shot the speed goat last year at 338 yards (*) with factory ammo HSM Hornady 178 A-Max. All meat donated.

Good luck!

yeah 700 to rebarrel. a krieger unfluted is about 300 and to the the action trued and bolt face squared and lug lapped and barrel installed is about 350 so when its all said and done im looking at about 700. It is looking like savage is winning this debate. anyone else want to chime in?

The money spend truing the action is a one time cost plus I like getting barrels throated for a certain bullet etc. My new 270Wby up the gunsmith now was a 30-338mag before that was a 30-06.

The money I spend on a rifle is spend money and I've normally have enjoyed shooting the rifle. Sure I could sell the rifle recoup some money but I just as soon rebarrel then get something maybe alittle better than what I was was shooting in a factory rifle. I always thing of it as stepping stone up into the accuracy game.

I don't want to get into a contest with anyone over factory vs rebarrel rifles. Well good luck

How does the 700 shoot. If very well then.........

Why not search around for a new sendero type 'new' take off barrel in 300 Win and simply swap barrels skipping the truing, blue printing?

I did that with a super great shooting 338 Win moving up to a 338 RUM. It shoots great. I think I kinda lucked out but for 40 bucks plus 125 install its a fairly inexpensive experiment. And it would be an experiment.

Keep in mind I come from the cheap seat area over here in Idaho.
