Question about Berger VLDs

In shooting my 300 SAUM with 185 and 175 gr Berger VLDs, an entire ladder test and every group shot was purely horizontal in nature. There was absolutely no vertical displacement.

Aside from the shooter, ME, what else could be the cause? Bullets were jammed 0.005" into the lands.

FWIW, shooting the 190 and 175 VLDs in my 300 WM with nice little cloverleafs!

Re: Question about Berger VLDs

You don't quote at what range you conducted the test.300 yards + ?

Re: Question about Berger VLDs

More info is needed.
Is the rifle properly bedded?
Was there any wind?
Heavy trigger pull?
Barrel diameter?
Chronoed the load and if so, were the numbers uniform?

Maybe the bullets need to be jammed further into the lands.

Re: Question about Berger VLDs

300 SAUM Rem Sendero
Slight 3-5 MPH wind, but to the right
Trigger is fine
Too late in evening to run chrono

After I fired the ladder, 100 yds btw, I shot my load with 175 smks, bullseye 0.34" 3 shot ctc.

I am going to load them up again to run them over the chrono just to compare the velocity, H4350 to Varget.

I guess I should load up three rounds of each and shoot groups at 300 to compare. I have just never seen 8 rounds with different powder charges shoot a horizontal line 2.5" long.
