Powder question

I've been looking at the 1000 yard benchrest competition results in the back of Precision Shooting magazine since I subscribed a few months ago and I've noticed that you don't see IMR powders listed very often. More often than not you see people using Reloder and Hodgdon powders it seems. Is there a particular reason why 1000 yard benchrest competitors don't use IMR powders much?

Re: Powder question

I believe that one reason is temp causing vel. fluctuations. The Reloader and Hodgdon powders have addressed this and are stable in the temp ranges we are likely to shoot at.

I use Hodgdon Extreme powder in my hunting loads for the same reason. I hunt in Canada where morning temps are below freezing and at noon you can be very warm. A load that changes 100 to 200fps during that temp. shift is annoying and can lead to LR misses.

Good luck...

Jerry
