Re: OK Guys - Skool me on heavies for my 30-06

I've got a standard chamber/throat. I'm loading to 3.40" oal, just off the lands.

With the moly'd 208 in Win brass I'm loading 61gr RL22, or 55 gr RL17, and CCI 200 primers.

Keep in mind my throat has roughly 4500 rounds down it. So as always start lower and work up with normal cautions.

Here are my load workup notes with the 208 AMax, with RL22 and RL17. You can see I had pushed up a couple grains higher than my working load, to see where I would start seeing pressure.

Hornady 208gr AMax, moly'd
Brass: Win
OAL: 3.46" (3.47" OAL kisses lands, 15Feb08)
CCI-200 primer
Reloder-22
60 gr - 2660 fps - 57K psi (22.5 bbl)
61 gr - 2710 fps - 62K psi
62 gr - 2765 fps - 66K psi
63 gr - 2800 fps - 70K psi, flattening primer
64 gr - 2850 fps - 74K psi, flattening primer, brass flow in ejector, .002" web expansion
Reloder 17
55 gr 2740 fps (22.5 bbl)
56 gr 2760 fps
57 gr 2810 fps, (slight brass flow in ejector)

Do you have the load data for the 210 by chance? Also, if you start loading up the 215, any idea what powder you would start with and a good starting load?

Re: OK Guys - Skool me on heavies for my 30-06

I loaded 60gr RL22 under moly'd 210 Bergers, 2800 fps from 26" bbl.

With the 215 Berger, I'd moly it up, and start around 58gr RL22, or 52gr RL17, in my rifle.

Every rifle is a little different. With a rifle I was not familiar with, I'd likely start around 56gr RL22, and 50gr RL17, and work up from there.

Thanks a lot for the info! I've been contemplating throwing a long range round together for my '06 for some antelope hunting for a friend. I might have to do some experimenting with these considering the results you are getting!
