IMO, Kimber wouldn't be worth the money if you're just going to tear it down after one season. But I've heard they are very nice and usually very accurate.

Maybe you could kill 2 birds with that stone though if you can find one in 260.?

That's possible but no one other than the Target savage sells a fast twist 260... I like to shoot the heavies.... Hmmm I will have to go do some playing around at the local gun stores I guess.

Take a look at the Sako Hunter Laminated Stainless ie: Grey Wolf that already comes in 260. I know it is more than $1000 but it would not have to be rebarreled, so you would save that $.

Light weight rifle that shoots well, that's easy Tikka T-3. I have a 7mm Rem Mag and it will shoot to 1/2" W/ Bergers 168 and about 3/4" with other loads. New SS model is right at 650 shipped from Buds. Mine weighs 7.5 lbs w/ 4.5x14x44 Carl Zeiss scope.

What about Kimber? Winchester? FN? I want to try something a bit different.
About ninety percent of my factory guns, or custom guns are remy actions. Easy to work with, and smiths are usually tooled to work them. Of recent, I have acquired a custom shop Winchester, and two post 64 Winchester rifles. The triggers are awesome, and very adjustable, and the actions are very strong, well built, and smooth. My Sharpshooter is a custom shop sweetheart, and is perfect in every sense of the word. I would NOT hesitate to use one of the other Winchester actions to do a build with. I actually like them in some ways better then the remmys due to the flat bottom. That makes bedding a little more tighter. In my book, you can't go wrong with the Winchester action. Give it a try, you won't be sorry.
Good luck on your build!!
