All brakes are NOT created equal.
Lot of good brakes out there.
I like Holland's New Radial design Not a well done video, but it shows its effectiveness:

Hi Ernie!!!

I've got one of JE Custom's Assassin brakes. Comes with a little data sheet showing calculated recoil before and after brake installation. It's also tuned to my particular load. 61.1% reduction in recoil.

You said you had a muzzle brake that was so loud you couldn't hunt with the rifle. You switched to a VAIS brake. The way you worded your comment it comes across that a VAIS brake was quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection! I don't know of ANY muzzle brake that would allow you to shoot without hearing protection without causing hearing damage!
