Re: More confused than ever

Holy cow!! I did not know that. How would one go about testing the b.c. to see if the numbers are correct. the jlk bullets are not expensive it might be a good test. don't know though

Re: More confused than ever

Probably the best way to test them would be to shoot them at the same velocity, same day, and compare drops. Make sure the zeros are the same and the farther you shoot for comparison the better. But I doubt you will see much difference. If you wanted to go through the effort, you could at least find out which shot best in your rifle and then let the rest of us know what the drops showed.

Re: More confused than ever

I think the 300smk will buck the wind better than some of the other bullets mentioned at distances approaching and beyond 1k.

Re: More confused than ever

Chas, the 300 SMK is no doubt a good wind bucker, but when you take the velocities and BC's and crunch them in the ballistic calcs, the 7mm 180 VLD shot from a 7mm RUM will out perform the 300 SMK out of an EDGE ballisitcally. Windage (45.7" vs 48.3") and TOF is very close 2 1K but the 180 edges out the 300 slightly. The 180 has a big advantage in drop and velocity.

Re: More confused than ever

Montanarifleman, what muzzle velocity are you using for both? What about the 338AX or 338AM?

Re: More confused than ever

Chas, in post #19 I mentioned 2900 for the EDGE/300 SMK and 3300 for the 7 RUM/180 VLD. I think these are very realistic expected velocities for these cartridges in about a 28-30" barrel. Using the same barrel length, you're probably going to see about a 400 fps diff in vel.

Re: More confused than ever

What about the 7mm Allen mag? What does this cartridge do with the 180 bergers and the 200 wildcat bullets. I would love to see these numbers
