Meplat Uniformer?

Does anyone have any experience with meplat uniformers? Is it possible to take a .308" 110 gr. V-Max, pull the tip out (so it's about 107 gr.), and trim the meplat until it's about 100 gr.? I live in NJ and can't shoot chucks with bullets over 100 gr. in a 308 win.

What kind of regulation is that?

I have used a meplat uniformer before and it just might do the job that you describe.

Kevin Cram at Montour County Rifles makes a good tool. Visit www.montourcountyrifles.com and click on 'meplat uniforming tool'

Re: Meplat Uniformer?

Thanks for the info! I'm gonna try it. It can't hurt to have that tool anyway, right? That's the exact one I was looking at also, all the other ones seem to be made out of delrin or plastic lol.

Center-fire rifle
.25 caliber or less: Hollow point, soft point or expanding lead core bullets of any weight.
Larger than .25 caliber: Hollow point, soft point or expanding lead core bullets of any weight not exceeding 100 grains in weight.

NJ's regs stink.

New Jersey is weird

I have a Kevin Cram meplat trimmer for a special purpose. Very very good.

I use it to trim bullets for re-tipping.

What's your method of pulling the tips? I use the trimmer, carefully, as some times the tip turns.

I'm confident that you will want to remove the tip, as you said, before using the trimmer.

I'll put some details on the blog one of these days. It has really been a trip.....

Landlords suck, especially in down town SLC. Believe it or not the lathe is in the bed room. Talk about a clean operation, the landlordess of the bedroom is tougher than the landlord of the complex. What a wife! Wouldn't trade her for the world.

I'm fabricating the last fixture, I hope, to maintain required consistency/uniformity tomorrow. I never knew a thou of an inch was so darn much!!!

Yeah, I know NJ is wierd... Firsthand experience .

I've been pulling the tips with a pair of dykes, is there an approved way?

Thanks.
