Long range varmit rounds
I have a Remington XR-100 which is chambered in .22-250. For the life of me I can't get it to shoot. However, I love the action; it's silky smooth. I like the Boyds stock too. I'd like a little gun, which I could take to 1000 yards or so, and would provide long bbl life. Is this too much to ask? If not, what chambering do you guys like?

Re: Long range varmit rounds
By little I mean something under 7mm that won't burn out a bbl quickly.

a lot of folks shooting 600 to 1000 yards are going to the 6.5 x 47 with a fast twist barrel. Others are just starting to neck the newer 30AR case down to 6.5 and even 6mm. This rounds comes in like a 6BR case on steroids! It's sorta like a short .284 case necked up to 30 caliber. Then there's also the 6x47 made off the .300 Savage case. This round is very accurate, and known for it's tight groups

Re: Long range varmit rounds
Might check out David Tubbs' 6mm XC. I believe it will fit in a short action, but don't quote me on that. He shoots 115 grn bullets at around 3000'/sec. and, it's his 1000 yd competition cartride.
I just had an Ackley improved 6X47 Lapua built (6 Long Dasher). It will fit a short action for sure, and I got 3300'/sec with a 105 in a 26" tube. That wasn't the max load, but 1.5 grains under max. The 6 XC is about 2grns H2O capacity over the Long Dasher.
Better BC's than most 22 cal's or even the 25 cal's and getting the same velocity as a 25-06 with alot less powder!
