limbic, I have read the article and that is part of the reason I asked the question. I appreciate all the input. The project is for hunting larger animals. I am not a long range hunter if you compare me to some of the obviously good shots here on the forum even though I have taken some animals 6-700 yards and the longest (coyote) at 846 with my swift I no longer own. I am in the process of building a 6.5-06 hunting weight rifle about 9 lbs ready to go I have built guns like this and close in caliber and would not hesitate to shoot 700+ with ample practice. My purpose is the larger animal with no break, I have fired a friends 7 stw and the recoil didn't bother me as well as a 300 Weatherby didn't either. any bigger may be a bit much. I will want a hunting weight gun about 10lbs heavy sporter type barrel or some combination there of. I am leaning toward the 300 weatherby right now but will listen to any suggestions. I could change my mind in the next couple minutes.
