Loads for 162 gr Amax in 7mm-08

I am getting started into handloading and want to try the Amax in my 7mm-08. Does anyone know of loads for the Amax? I have Varget and RL17 to try.

I'm not real sure about RE17 it has a similar burn rate to H4350, so depending on what brand of brass your using and your seating depth id start at about 44grns with RE17 and work up till you see pressure, I know you can use compressed H4350 which would be around 48-48.5grns, and will do about 2775fps from a 24" barrel, at that speed I hope your twist is 9.5 or ffaster.

YES 9.5 twist

Not to put a Fine Point on the matter, but at what altitude? The closer to sea level, and the colder it will be, the more Rate of Twist matters. Say for instance, you are at 4000' ASL at 20 degree's F. , in that case a 9.5 would likely be okay. The higher the altitude, and the warmer it is, the slower the twist rate you can honestly get by with. In all honesty, I would prefer a 9 twist or even better an 8.5 twist for ALL Climate shooting.

That all being said, You will most likely be okay.

Interesting, I'll be hunting between 3000 ft and 7000 ft. Southern CA and Sierras so temp will be between 32 degrees F and 80 degrees F.

I tried 45.5 & 46 grs RE17 with this bullet and accuracy wasnt up to par, 41grs 2000MR did pretty good though.
