How much does bedding effect accuracy

How much will a Devcon bedding job effect accuracy in a decent laminated stock. Will it turn 4" groups to 2" groups? Or us it more of turning a 1" gun to a 1/2" gun.

Making a 4" into a 2" shooter and making a 1" into a 1/2" shooter is basically the same thing.

If you are speaking of 100 Yd. groups, a 4" rifle needs a hell of a lot more than bedding.

Re: How much does bedding effect accuracy

There are four 'marcro' items that you can adjust in order to improve accuracy. they are:

Action Bedding in high quality/decent stock
Blueprinting/truing action or lapping bolt lugs
Adjust/replace trigger
Replace barrel/recrown existing barrel

Difficult to say how much any of these will improve accuracy. the only way to know would be to make one change at a time, then remeasure accuracy.

I can say that if you do all or most of these, your rifle is almost guaranteed to improve:

Re: How much does bedding effect accuracy

I have had quite varying experiences with bedding.
1. 1 1/2" groups shrunk to 1/2" after bedding
2. 1 1/2" groups with no change in group size after bedding.
3. 3/4" group shrink to 3/8" after bedding.

The first one had an obvious issue with the stock to action fitment.
Bedding should be automatic. I have never seen it hurt accuracy.

Re: How much does bedding effect accuracy

A good clean bedding job and consistant torque on the action screws has been my observation.
