Re: Highest BC 0.257 bullet please...
From what I have seen, so far the Berger 115 VLD is the tops at 0.522, Lost River has a 90 that is like .490, but they are like a $1 for each bullet and I have heard more unfavorable accurcy posting than good..
the Nolser 115 Balistic tip is like .453, about as good as you can get without going into match bullets...
FiftyDriver knows someone who is making some 130-140 ULD Bullets that are supost to be like over 0.700 BC, but might require a faster twist (1:8 maybe)
Don't let people tell you that you need to shoot real far to get benifits from good BC drag.... Muzle Velocity is nice, but no animal (for the most part) is dumb enough to walk up to the muzzle.. muzzle velocity is pretty much worthless..
you need to know what you have at 100-200 and maybe 400-500 or even 600 yards or more...
Take for instance.. keeping bulets at 2000 fps is a good velocity for shocking power effect while the bullets goes through and or expands..
The 22-250, 220 Swift, 22-250 Improved, 223 WSSM, 204 Ruger, 17 Remmington are all considered "FAST".. launch bullets from 3600-4200 fps MV.. sounds good for bragging..
my 115 Berger VLD's in my 25-06 launched at 3100 fps (probably can get 3200 as 3100 shows no pressure signs), it is still going 2000 fps at 600 yards... something no hot factory .22 centerfire on earth can beat or even match,
most of the time by just only 300 yards, the 115 VLD's (starting out at only 3100 fps) are faster than a 4200 fps muzzle vel 40 grn load from a 22-250 at 300 yards..
faster at 400-500 yards than most the best 50-55 grain hand loads from the Swift or 22-250...
even ta 100-200 yards the 1000 fps muzzle vel differance is gone... and the gap is only 300-500 fps sometimes
Balistic Drag does make a differance.
I load mine with 53.0 Re-22, CCI BR-2 primers just touching the lands.. most accurate load in my gun under 1/2 moa at 100-200, (and about 5/8 MOA at 300-400.. but thats probably me, not the load..)
Another bullet I like but have not tried is the Barnes 100 XBT, with a BC of .420, sounds good at 3400-3500 fps...
Even the 85-87 at 0.311-0.330 are pretty good compared to the hot .22's, MORE vel at 500 yards than some of the hot centerfire .22's have a 300-400 yds..
