Re: High BC .257 bullets?

Reed,

I may well take you up on that offer in the spring. AT this time, Richard is working on some "super" bullets in 22 cal just to see if we can get them to survive the top end 224 Allen Mag performance. If they do not work I may well accept your offer and try the dasher.

Thanks!!

Re: High BC .257 bullets?

Kirby, Thanks for the information. Since my post above, I spoke to one of the Krieger technical advisors and he told me that their general rule is that their barrels have about 70% groove and 30% lands.

Also, unless mentioned otherwise on the website, their standard barrels from .224 to .338 have 4 grooves. Special groove configurations will cost an extra $75.00.

On the basis of 30% lands, my .224 barrel (4 groove)would have compression ratio of 29.9%.

The 172 cal barrel that I was hoping to order next week would have the same 29.9% ratio. As it will be using Richard's heavy 35 - 45 grain bullets, which will have a long baring surface, I wonder whether I should ask whether it is possible to get the them to alter their 70/30 ratio to say 80/20. Alternatively should I ring Lilja and PacNor who make fast twist 17's and see what their ratios are. What would you do?

It will be interesting to see how the Rock 5R barrel performs. Regards, Brian.

Re: High BC .257 bullets?

Skip, Sorry to hear about the Bergers not being available, although I am not using any at the moment.

In the past, the process of getting bullets from Richard has not been that difficult. The only snag now is that instead of him posting them to us, due to Oz Post no longer accepting "items of weaponry" in International Post, we have to use a courier.

Richard indicated to me several months ago, that he has found a courier who will deliver to Oz. I will contact him today and see if he has some 115 grain ULD's, and try and ascertain what the anticipated courier cost might be.

If he has some 115 grain ULD's in stock, perhaps you might be interested in doing a joint order, as it might help lessen the courier costs.

Has your email address changed, as the last two I sent with 25/06AI data were returned to me. Regards, Brian.
