Re: good in wind
I am shooting them in my 300 SAUM. Well, I tried them. At 535 yards I was seeing about 6" of drift in variable winds of 5 mph. At 200 yards, they will blow a 4 sq in section of steel out of an old saw blade, at 300 yards, they still blow out a hole a little bigger than a half dollar.
I got better accuracy with the 175 SMKs.
I am shooting 178 AMAX most accurately at about 2875-2950 fps, depending on the lot of powder used. I have shot them as low as 2800 fps. I got one lucky group at 535 yards with them at that velocity, 2.2" ctc 5 shots. I have the SMKs as tight as 1.4" ctc.
Wind drift between them on the same day, same conditions, same load even, the smks had 1/3-1/5" less drift. Its negligable. The AMAX shot flatter. The wind had to have been a little gustier on the AMAXs.
I will be hunting with the SMKs loaded to 2835 fps in a couple weeks. The terminal performance should be terminal!
