Freebore - Plus or Minus

I am still new here so I try not to pipe in to much but I am getting my first magnum rifle at Christmas. Its a Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Wby. Mag.

I am no stranger to guns and shooting. I have many guns just standard calibers and I also do my own handloading which I will do for the 300. I know that freebore helps you to gain velocity without raising the pressure through the first inch or so of the barrel not having any rifling.

My questions is does freebore help much and can I still adjust my C.O.A.L. to gain accuracy?

Freebore is the ammount of non rifled barrel that extends past a round that is loaded to
SAAMI C.O.L spects or what ever your loaded length to the ogive.

More freebore allows more bullet jump before the bullet engages the rifling redeucing pressure.

Freebore is not a problem as long as good loading practices are observed and head space
is held to a minimum.

The weatherbys normaly have somewhere around .250 free bore.
