Re: Douglas XX Barrels

I had a Douglas Air-Gauged XX on a 300 Win Mag. It shot great, but was a copper-fouling monster. For that reason, I'll never buy another one.

For me and when I get ready to start another build there are other, better options. There may be a slight increase in price, but the ease of cleaning would easily be worth it.

I just picked up a used .338 Win Mag with a Douglas XX barrel. I'm looking forward to trying it.

My first Douglas barrel was installed in the 80's. Air-guage and it shot lights out. Just a few months ago I got my newest XX installed on a Rem. 721 in 25.06. It shoots 90 gr Sierras into beautiful little groups and it hammers coyotes. I have yet to put a brush to it to get the carbon or copper out! Matter of fact my 'smith just ordered another Douglas for me for my .243AI build.

    PS
For my own selfish reasons...I'm glad Douglas barrels are under the radar, it's makes getting them easier.

I just finished bore scoping my douglas barrel and it was amazing. Very clean and shiny. I only use wipe out accelerator and patch out. It for sure does the job.
My first custom barrel, I thought whatever I put down the tube it would be a one holer. Wrong! Still took load development, but once done, I'm good to go. Grouping half MOA w/70 TNT's and 88 bergers out of a kimber Montana in 243 win.
