I'm fairly certain the heavy non-VLD bullets, like the Lapua mega, have low BCs due to long bearing surfaces needed to get them to stabilize in standard twist rate barrels. The Lapua mega, I believe is aimed at the scandinavian market, as the 6.5x55 Swede is very popular and used to hunt game up to and including moose, and a heavier bullet is beneficial in achieving the needed penetration on such large game.

Swampy makes some good vlds but I think 140 may be the largest he does as well, you may already know but if your banging steel or paper punching Lapua makes a 144grn fmjbt that has a bc right at .64

Testing Matrix Bullets - online - Canadian, 160 gr 6.5 mm VLD BC listed on their site of .675. Working loads up in 2 Savage's in 6.5-284 Norma, the Long Range Hunter and at Predator Hunter. Hope to get 2750 to 2850. Finally found some MRP to go along with my other powders in the test. BTW, 140 Nosler Partions with HV100 shoots superbly.

Re: Do you know of any .264 bullets bigger than 140g?

There is a good reason why some heavier bullets have a lower BC than some lighter bullets. The length of a bullet is governed by the twist rate of the barrel. There is a limit that cannot be passed. In order to keep the bullet length within the parameters of the twist rate of the barrel, the only way to make it heavier would be to make the nose or the boattail, or both, shorter.

Given that a large part of improving the BC of a bullet lies in optimizing the shape of the ogive, making the ogive shorter and the BC worse, overrides the BC advantage of increasing the weight. The same applies to the boattail, to a lesser extent. Increasing the weight, therefore, does not always increase the BC.

I have tried the Matrix 142 VLD and it gave excellent accuracy, going to try the 160s next. I think they are the highest BC VLD out there in the 6.5.

Re: Do you know of any .264 bullets bigger than 140g?

I just received two more boxes of the 160vlds. They are shooting phenomenally well from my 6.5WSM. If my testing concludes as I believe it will, they will move into my primary bullet slot.
