Cauterucio bullets correspondence...

Hi Brothers...I thought someone might find this email from Bob Cauterucio interesting. These are his current bullets , their BC and cost. He has discontinued the 176 grain 7mm but has replaced it with a 177.5 bullet weight. I am about to order some to load in a 7WSM and would appreciate any feedback regarding their performance on game. I did a search and found generally positive comments! Thank You 30-338 Hope this doesn't violate any protocol. I have no association with him or his company

HI JOHN,

I DO NOT HAVE A WEB SITE. THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHAT BULLETS
I CAN MAKE. THE 176 HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A 177.5 GR. HOWEVER, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE,
BETWEEN THE TWO IS THE WEIGHT. THE 177.5 WENT INTO 2.5" FOR 5 SHOTS AT 1000 YDS OUT OF
AN "F" CLASS RIFLE. THE 189 GR WENT INTO .3" FOR 10 SHOTS AT 200 METERS IN A BENCH GUN.

All bullets are hollow point design, made on Sierra Matchking jackets and stand up to high velocities very well. No automated presses are used to make these bullets. They are all handmade by me on the best carbide dies on the planet. I have 18 Rockchucker presses modified for bullet making. I'm a one man operation and want it this way to insure top quality bullets. I extrude my own lead wire for extra uniformity. All the shooter has to do is load and shoot the finished bullets, because I check them all through the various manufacturing steps. Bullets within the same lot do not have to be sorted into different batches, because I've already done that for you as I make them.

Call between 3 & 4pm PST for availability, prices and questions.

Re: Cauterucio bullets correspondence...

I have used Bob's bullets for quite a while, switched to Berger just months ago for reasons unrelated to quality. Bob makes a great bullet. You will be happy with them.

But...as Bryan Litz has been proving to us and the shooting community, this thing of accurate BC's for long range bullets is rather complicated. I am convinced that Bob's 7mm bullet BC's are not as high as he (and I) had thought. But they are probably about the same as Berger.

Re: Cauterucio bullets correspondence...

I too am curious about the stated B.C. of the bullets. It says he uses matchking jackets and shows his 7mm 168 grn has the same as the sierra, (.494 highest number listed). What could he be doing to the 156 grn to get such a high BC. On sierra's site they are listing a 150mk at .429. Really the only difference I'm seeing are the listed velocities. Sounds interesting though.....

Re: Cauterucio bullets correspondence...

Bob relies on his more experienced shooters to tell him what they think his bc's are. I have learned much from ballistician, Bryan Litz, of Berger to know not to trust bc value opinions from even experienced shooters.

Re: Cauterucio bullets correspondence...

It is possible to calculate a BC from the shape of the different parts and the weight of the bullet and this may give a higher BC ( or lower) than reality. Many small custom bullet makers do this because they do not have the financial resource ( or inclination) to spend testing each bullet.

The interesting points of the bullets are that they are on the thicker and tougher Sierra jacket and also many people say he makes a very high quality and consistent bullet. Thus if you are launching accurate bullets at speeds the Berger J4 jackets will not tolerate and/or you need a bullet that is tougher on impact then this should be a good bullet to try.
