bullets not stabelizing????

i was out shooting my 243 wssm the other day and was having a problem with the 105 a-maxs not stabelizing, about 1/2 the bullets were hitting the target sideways. i also shot the 107 matchkings and they shot lights out, in the .1's. all this in a 1-8" tist barrel. any suggestions on why this might be happening??? i figured if they stabelized the 107's and even the 115 vld's that the 105's should be stable also. huntinfool18

This won't be much of a reply but, possibly bullet construction has something to do with it.

Cross section the three bullets long ways and compare construction and jacket thickness. Also measure bearing surface. It may be revealing.

Sounds like that pot bellied cartridge is doing well for you.
I may be the slowest guy on the mountain . . . . but . . . . I'm on the mountain!

You did not mention at what range they were hitting sideways. That makes a difference.
Long range shooting is a process that ends with a result. Once you start to focus on the result (how bad your last shot was, how big the group is going to be, what your buck will score, what your match score is, what place you are in...) then you loose the capacity to focus on the process.

My 6-284 will shoot the 107 SMK and the 115 DTAC fine but explodes the A-Max with a 1-8.2. This started with the A-Maxs going sideways every couple of shots and just got worse fairly quickly. I don't know what velocity you're getting but mine were going 3270 fps. It's a shame as these were very accurate in my rifle when they did go.

i was shooting them at 500 yds and on a few shots i couldnt see them hit. so i moved in to 100yds and saw that they were hitting sidways. i chrony'd the 115's last night and was getting 3130 from a 30" barrel so im guessing that the 105's are going around 3200 or so.

thanks for all the replies i havent shot any more of them but i will load some more p and see if i can figuire something out.

the 105's are pretty thin skinned usually when the barrel gets dirty they come unglued, especially with a high rate of twist

what velocity? You might be spinning them too fast for a 1-8. That would be my guess also
