Book on rifle machining?

My dad is a life long tool & die maker that owns his own machine shop. We have both recently gotten into precision rifle shooting\long range hunting. With all his machining expertise and equipment, is there some book out there with specific information on re-barreling, squaring actions, etc.? Any videos?

Well, in MHO, you don't have to be a machinist, or a tool and die maker, to put a barrel on a rifle. There are many quirks and subtleties among the different actions, but most bolt actions are based on the same principles. You might want to do a search on benchrest.com

Both Darrel Holland and Greg Tannel have video sets out and both are very informative. Also both have specialized tools that will help with your gun building , all are pretty easly made your self if you don't want to fork out the money.

I highly reccomend Greg Tannel's muzzel flush coolant system its a very good desgine.

Hi 7mmSendero,
Probably the best book on the subject:
"The Complete Illustrated Guide To Precision Rifle Barrel Fitting" by John L. Hinnant.
The book shows illustrated set ups for turning, threading and chambering of barrels with a very precise text.
There is also a section on truing and squaring actions, chasing reciever threads and truing the bolt, an excellent book you wont be dissapointed.

Ian.
