I agree with Huntin. You can have a Savage w/McMillan, mounted Nightforce scope, and an accutrigger for $2K.
Nothing is needed. No truing, thread chasing, lug lapping, trigger jobs, bedding or upgrading. The gun will shoot per design and meet Savages current standards before it gets to you.
It's the best deal going. Just check around the net for a bad review.
Good luck to ya either way

My tikka T3 has become a real factory rifle .75 MOA shooter. All I have done is bed the action and develop a load it likes.I can put 4 shots in .75 MOA @ 100yds routinely.Must be the Sako barrel. In the fall I will have some 300yd groups to talk about.

Thanks for the input - please see edited topic at beginning re incorrect price ceiling - I did not convert our Aussie $ to USD! And the $1400USD amount is rifle only however our gear is much more expensive than buying US manufactured equipment in the USA. EG the M700 VSVF is approx $1220USD here.

Aussie,

How much does a Sako or tica run you? Both are excellent, and the few tica rifles I have seen were extremely accurate out of the box. I didn't realized how spoiled we were over here. I have had a couple rifles rebuilt for under $1000 US dollars that are very accurate. Hmm, I think I will go home and tell my wife how fortunate we are and that I need to take advantage of it.

What cartidge?
What use?
I'm thinking that best out-of-box accuracy of those listed has clearly been establihed as Savage. The others fall way behind in quality and design.

imho, sako's are the most accurate out of the box rifles.

i have 3 of them and i'd happily put them up against any of the other makers for build quality, reliability and accuracy.

derek

Re: Best factory rifle accuracy under $1400US

I have two primary big game rifles. A Rem 700 lh with jewell trigger, shilen barrel, garret stock, blueprinted. Shoots great.

The other is a Savage 11fl in 300 WSM. Shoots equally well, with not one dollar of mods except to shorten the stock and put a decelerator on it. Accutrigger is not quite as good as jewell, but not far behind it, and $300 cheaper.

If you want to play, get the Remington. If you're light on cash, get the Savage. Both are a good idea.
