Anyone seen this with their chrono data

I was out playing with the ultra mags today getting some chrono data. Beautiful North Dakota day not a cloud in the sky. I started shooting with the diffusers of the chrono. Data was as expected.
Then for giggles I put the diffusers on and thats when the wierdness happened. I went from shooting a consistant 3296 to 2848 fps. This has never happened before and I am baffled. Anyone else had this issue or know of a fix? Which one is right?

According to the data, I should have blown my face off at 3296 fps. The round has always run 2850 or there abouts. Just wondering if the diffusers make that big of a difference. I have not used them before. I called the company and they said that there should never be that be of a difference.

Any info would be appreciated. Oh yeah....battery was new.

Thanks everyone

Could you provide the brand and model information for your chronograph?

I've never owned that brand/model. So my input wouldn't be helpful.

I've used several other brand/models and not experienced this issue. Perhaps someone that operates the same brand/model you own and use will sound in and provide comments based on their experiences.

I have a Chrony too. Not sure of the model other than it's a pretty basic model. I have found that it performs best when it is completely in a shadow. But even when in full sun, it has never acted as oddly as yours.

Re: Anyone seen this with their chrono data

It has worked flawlessly to this point. I guess it caught me a bit by suprise. I have always been told that the difusers don't make a difference. They are just there for a background so the sensors can see the bullet better. Either way, it was interesting to say the least. I will find out more tomorrow from the company and post it just in case there is someone else this has happened too.

No matter what it number it spit out, which ended up being 2800 fps consistantly I still ended up shooting a 6 shot group at .25 at 100. 300 rum with 230 bergers.

I guess the sun shines on a dogs butt somedays!!

Re: Anyone seen this with their chrono data

It has been my understanding that the diffusers are supposed to be used on sunny, cloudless days or any time you have direct sunlight on your chrono. I have used a Chrony brand in the past and am now using a Pro Chrono. I have found that either one was the most accurate and consistent on cloudy/overcast days with no direct sunlight. Even with the diffusers on in sunlight, a guy has to watch for low sun angles on your chrono, can really give you inaccurate readings. I like to shoot early in the morning when there is just enough light for the chrono to operate but no direct sunlight yet. Cloudy days are good too.
