since the 7 practical is pretty much the 7-300 win asking him to report the performance of his 180's out of his gun and comparing to my 7-300 win would not be off topic.

if there is info that he has on loading the same bullet i am using in these cartridges i think others on here will agree it is ok? if not then i can pm him

Calm down everyone. I just didn't want to get into the arguments about which bullet kills better on this particular thread. That subject has been worn out elsewhere. Which bullet shoots better in your or my rifle is good info for all to share. Tinsley was referring to a PM he and I had going.

Re: Anyone own a 7mm 300 Win Mag?

This is all great dialogue! I've about 350 new Winchester cases (all same lot #) for 300 Win mag and would like to one day do a 7/300 build as well.

Wildcatting is all new to me so having a reamer made up with all the related specs is kinda mind boggling. So, is a 300 Win Mag case with a 30 degree shoulder necked down called a "7/300 Practical"?

My original performance hope for this general chambering is to use 160gr hunting bullets and be over 3,100fps with a moderate length tube of maybe 27" including a brake (more of a mountain hunting rifle than a strict stand-hunter).

Application is for 500-600 yds max on elk and about any distance I'm comfortable with for antelope or mulies. I'm sure the chambering is capable of longer ranges with elk (my primary quarry) than I would take. For hunting elk from 600 yds and further to my personal comfort max. distance, I'm more inclined toward a fast 338 (300gr pills @ ~ 3,200 fps).

id take a 100 of the 300 win cases,,,

anyway I am shooting the 168 lrab nosler lately with rel 25, 73 grains, my pro chrono set at 20 ft is reading 3178 with this load, shot to 400 yards with it its maintain .5 moa for 5 shot groups pretty easily,, I don't know what to use for a bc to run a program to figure drops , I had a 300 yd zero and about 7.5-8in drop at 400,,,

27in brux barrel,,, .220 freebore standard 7-300

Re: Anyone own a 7mm 300 Win Mag?

Why not just load up those .300 WM cases with 30 cal, and go hunting?

I don't mean to offend anybody, but you must admit, there is so much baloney being spoken here.

You know, like if 7mm isn't good enough, we must jump right to 338 cal.

Everyone knows that the .300 Win Mag is the go everywhere, do everything cartridge for North America.
