No... what you see is lead just splattered, fused like inside onto the steel wall inside the hole. It's a solid 3/4" steel bar. What I did not mention before was that the bar was in the ground and 2 steel screws were through the drilled holes holding a wood board with a target on it. So the 200 grain accubond pulled the steel stake off the board, out of the ground and away about 8 feet. Pretty awesome impact.

Eaglet - Glad to here that somebody else is from Nevada here on the forum.

The problem is: You don't have enough speed for the diameter of your bullet. I've found that it's not the mass so much a shear speed that can blow though metal.

Out at our metal target range none of the 30's or 338 win mags ever punch holes through 1/2 mild steel swinging targets at 200 and more yards. Although nobody has brought out a 30 RUM with 150 grain that I know off. The targets just get covered with impact craters like in your pictures. The 22's through 7mm just vaporize holes through.

Even a 270 win with 140 hpbt will go through when a heavy bullet out of 30 win mag won't

budlight,
Nice to know. I thought I was the only one...
Very interesting what you say in your post.
Have you ever used the Washoe County Shooting Facility
towards Pyramid Lake? Specifically the 1000 yard range?
I have never used it, I would like to though but they told me you had to be a member of a long range club or something like that.
Good to hear from you!
