900 yd elk?????
ok guy what is in your opinion the best caliber for taking elk at or beyond say 900 yds not counting wild cat round just wanting to know about reg calibers .300 win mag .300 rum and so on.....

At that range for elk, I would say you will need to step up to the 300 rum or 338 rum. Load them will some heavy stuff too.

I assume you do not want to reload?

In a factory load I would go with the .300 RUM.

The .338 Lapua would also be good if you could obtain a suitable supply of factory ammo with a good long range hunting projectile.

Factory chamberings:
First choice- 338 Lapua
Second Choice - 338 Rum
Third Choice - 300 Rum

For a factory cartridge, 338 RUM.

$$ no option then 338 Lapua.

I wouldnt wish a 300 RUM on anybody.
