87gr V-Max vs 135grSierra HPBT

Two Cartriges which will serve me the best. Going to Northen Ca Dessert To hunt predators.6x284 shooting 87gr V-Max at 3500FPS OR 270WSM 135gr Sierra HPBT 3,250FPS.Both rifles capable of 1/2"groups at 200yds in fact both sighted dead on for 200 yds in 50 degree weather. Will be hunting in 20 to 40 degree weather high dessert.I wonder what changes in trejectorey will I have to contend with???? That would depend on the relitave ballistic coef. of each bullet and the velocity of each.

I would go with the 87gr. Vmax. It sports a BC of .400 and at a velocity of 3500fps its hard to beat. I doubt that any 270 bullet could beat it in trajectory and wind bucking ability at those velocities. I use the 87 gr vmax in a 243 ack with a 30" tube at about the same velocities you list. I can assure you it will be devastating.

Re: 87gr V-Max vs 135grSierra HPBT

The 270 140 or 150 spbt when shot out the tube at 3200 fps will be exceeding the 87 grains 3500 starting speed by the time they get to 250 yards.

I just never mess with HP's anymore. With fast enough bullets the results are the same with the higher BC sp's

If you just want to tear the dogs apart at under 250 yards the 110 grain loaded to 3500 out of a 270 are just devistating and the 100 grains loaded to 3600 fps vaporize up to 10 pound animals.

The sierra 110 grain .277 has a BC of 318 probably near the same as your 6mm 87 gr So shot at equal speed you do the math. Bigger diameter and 20 some % heavier.
