Nomo, You are correct. The short fat case design seems to make the difference but is a pain to do. The STW will work great for your son with alot less work.

In my limited experience (one rifle), the 7STW is capable of outstanding accuracy. My Savage Tactical rechambered to 7STW regularly shoots in the .3" range at 100 yards, and my smallest group to date is .14" for 3 shots at 100 yds. Last fall I shot one group at 400 yds off a slightly unsteady bench and it went 3". My load is Fed 215GM primer, 78 gr of IMR 7828 behind the 140 gr BT moly coated. My rifle only has a 24" barrel, so velocity is a little over 3300 fps. I would like more velocity, but I wouldn't trade this gun for the world. I plan on trying the AB for a tougher bullet.
The critters have to win every time, I only have to win once.
