7mm Rem Mag Retrofit

Hey all,
New to the site but not new to reloading for normal (350 and in) hunting ranges. Decided to step up my game so here's the setup and a few questions from a newbie:

Factory Rifle setup: Model 700 SS 7mm Remington Magnum 24"bbl (100-150 rounds fired). Killed plenty-o-deer.
Nikon 4-12x40
65.5 gr Reloader 19
WW Super Brass
Rem 9 1/2M primer
Nosler 140gr BT

Retrofit: Rifle is now at R.W. Hart and Sons for complete accurizing package. The factory tupperware stock will be gone for a bedded Bell & Carlson Medalist.
Swarovski AV 4-12x50 Plex reticle replaces Nikon
BBL gets a Hart muzzlebrake
Norma brass from Sinclair on the way. Am only thinking longer range for this rifle. So,

1) 168 Berger VLD, 162 Hornady SST, or other??
2) Fed 215 primer or ...?
3) Read lots of praise for Reloader 22, go right there or try Norma MRP??
4) Assuming a fine tuned load, what would be a realistic maximum accuracy range given the rifles limitations with a 24"bbl, and Plex reticle scope?

Re: 7mm Rem Mag Retrofit

i got higher velocity, higher pressure and higher es with 215s. would only use them in below zero hunts. i get best accuracy with the 168 bergers and 140 acubonds. i have used re-19, h-4831 and h-4831sc. i have not tried mrp . it would be much like re-22 i believe. i have one 700 with krieger barrel i could shoot a deer at a very very long range . i shot a group at 759 yards you could cover with an orange maybe 3.5 to 4 inches. you will have to shoot yours to see what you get . my factory barrel rem 700 i have not tried past 200 yards yet. the most accurate load in that rifle is around 68.5 or 69 grains of H-4831 and a 140 accubond. norma brass. the 9.5m, 250 and wlrm all gave the same velocity and group size . i could easily inter change them if i wanted. that scope i bet is very very clear. pm me if you want . roninflag

Re: 7mm Rem Mag Retrofit

I have some experience with a 7mm Remington Mag. The first powder I would try is H1000.

Re: 7mm Rem Mag Retrofit

I like h-1000 the best in my 7mag. I got 168 bergers over 3000 fps with H-1000 and WLR primers in a 24" barrel. I tried RL-22 and it was accurate, but too temperature sensitive to work for me. I too got better accuracy and more consistent velocity when I switched from a mag to WLR primers.

Re: 7mm Rem Mag Retrofit

I agree with the h 1000 suggestion rl 19 has given me some excellent groups but when the temp changed so did my velocity. I recently switched to vihtavouri n165 in my 300wsm with excellent results. A close friend has had great results in his 7 mag with h1000.
