Well here it goes. My Fiance took a outstanding shot anchoring a really nice South Dakota whitetail buck at 605yds this last year. She was shooting my savage 112 7rm. she loves that rifle as much as i do. Being that it is broke and very accurate she can hit and kill just about everything she shoots at. Since that she has come into her own and really wants to continue hunting long range. I have decided that it is time for me to build a rifle for her also since I am building one for her I figured I would build another for myself as well. I was looking for something that would give stw velocities and function in a standard mag action. I was really looking at the 7mm dakota for the builds until the other day was looking at dakota brass on Grafs.com and I found exactly what i was looking for. There is 423 dakota brass made by lapua for for sale @ 65cents a piece. Being a tinkerer by nature I thought this cartridge necked down would do exactly what i was looking for with a little bit of work. I know that this case will have a little more capacity than the 7 dakota
. I can have a custom reamer and dies made for about the same cost as it would be to get set up for 7 dakota. I ordered 500 of these cases today and am really excited to see how exactly I am going to wildcat this case. I do know that this was a limited production run of this brass so buying 500 of these cases should get us many years of and several barrels worth of reloadings.
So what do you guys think has anyone done a wildcat on this case yet? If so case specs would be helpful.
