7mm 140gr Accubond for Elk

I am wondering if you guys think this bullet will work for Elk out to 600 yards. I am shooting it out of my 7mm STW at 3410 FPS. This bullet shoots the best at long Range out of any of the bullets I have tried including the 160 Accubond and the 175 Sierra and Nolser 175 Partition. I would not be taking any off angle shots or shots through heavy bone. I did order some 175gr ULD heavy Jacket bullets from Wildcat bullets and when they show up I will see how they shoot. But for now it is looking like the 140 Accubond shoots the best.

I think it will do just fine. Stay away from Texas heartshots and other "demanding" shots!

Dakor: WIth any luck, after saturday I can let you know how than perform on pigs at 3400 fps. 140gr Accubond shoot well out of my 7mm Hart and I had the same question re: elk.

For shooting with my 7mm STW I only use 175 BT's and I've kind of settled into the Barnes - X for hunting. After thinking about this that Barnes 150 might be a great choice also

When you get into the BC of a bullet. The 175 starting at a slower speed will be going faster than the non BT 140 gr. before 400 yards. 175's weigh @25% more than a 140 the energy of the 175 going even just the same speed is terrific.

Budlight I want to use a heavier bullet with a Higher BC but my rifle is not cooperating. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] The 140 Accubond shoots the best at 300 yards and 500 yards. Why I do not know? I do have some 175 grain custom bullets on the way maybe those will shoot better. I might be to picky I do not know. The 140 accubonds shoot a 2 inch group at 500 yards the 175 Sierra's are about a 3 1/2 inch group. What do you guys think?

Don't you hate it when the rifle doesn't like the load it should? I have a Sako 7mm (Lazzeroni Firebird version) that loves the Nosler Partition in 140 gr. Shoots it much better than it should. Hates all the streamlined high BC bullets. I guess the jury's still out on the Accubond as far as "tough" goes, but I have no worries with the 140 gr Partition.

[img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] I would say that 3.5 inches is dead. I loaned my STW to a friend doing a Colorado elk hunt. With the 175 and just under 200 yards away facing him. He did the frontal chest shot and it blew the bull straight back and down on the ground. Dead on impact. The bullet went clear through the elk and exited out the butt cheek with a big wound channel.

It's been my experience that the heavy bullets in any caliber just take animals down. The shock wave stuns them and they don't get back up. But then again I don't try for the classic heart lung shots. Base of the neck or spine behind the shoulder.
