7mm-08 Improved

Does anyone have any "real-world" experience with this cartridge? Looking for info with the heavier (160-175gr) bullets.

Re: 7mm-08 Improved

theres nothing wrong with 7=08 improved. But with the 284 case and no fire forming with a 35 degree shoulder it seems to be the easiest choice.

Re: 7mm-08 Improved

TMR: Great cartridge although I profess no experience with the heavier bullets. Fire forming the brass is not a big issue for me since I only need about 40 rounds of brass, and I, like most handloaders, fireform all my cases, improved or not. Although I like the .284 (already an improved designed) if your building on a 700 short action, the 7-08 will match the .284 Win. with less powder and better feeding. FYI, if you like McMillan's BDL stock design, there is a Holland built 7-08AI, #4 barrel, Jewell trigger for $1200 on Sniper's Hide. Hell of a buy.

Re: 7mm-08 Improved

TMR

The 7-08x40 that I had was built for 140 to 160 gr bullets
with a 1 in 9 twist 22" hunter bench rest tapered barrel

Fire forming was not a problem and powder capacity was
about 8 grs more than the 7/08 allowing slower powder
to be used.

Best loads were,
140gr partition with 55 gr H4350 @3155 vel
160gr partition with 56 gr H4831 @3105 vel
Also it liked H414 with 145gr bullets.

With the new 7 WSM & 7 SAUM powder capacity
has increased to about 70 grs so the advantage
of case capacity and newer slow burning powder
will improve velocitys with larger bullets
and still work in a short action.

NOTE these loads were max so start low and work
up

I hope this helps
