700P or Sendero

I will be buying a new rifle in the near future and am looking for opinions between the 700P and the Sendero.
It will be a 300 Win Mag and used for target out to 1000 and hunting out to 500.
Which one would you pick and why?
Suggestions on optics, scope base and rings, and loads would also be appreciated. I am thinking about the Vortex PST.
Thanks for your advice.

Re: 700P or Sendero

Of the 2 mentioned, I'd pick Sendero, hands-down a much prettier gun, with the stainless fluted barrel, jeweled bolt, and I LOVE the Sendero stocks.

If you are looking into guns in that price range, you should also not discredit the 700 5R in .300 WinMag...It's also a shooter, if you can get your hands on one. They tend to be quite elusive around these parts. Local store has one, but they want $1,300 for it, and I don't have that kind of cheese right now.

As for Scope and optics setup.....I'd go with an EGW Heavy Duty 20MOA base and TPS Aluminum Heavy Duty rings (Low-Medium depending on scope size).

As for scope....That's tough. My first choice would be a Nightforce NXS 8.5-32x56 1/10 adjustment, Zero-Stop, with MOAR reticle. It's my dream scope....But I don't have that kind of cash to drop on a scope right now. I probably will once I get my custom build under-way.

But if money is tighter, the Zeiss 6.5-20x50 1" scope with Mil-Dot reticle is an excellent choice! And can be had for $799 @ Midway. I have one on my Sendero SF in 7mmSTW. Quality is awesome, and it lets in a TON of light for a 1" tube. You will be VERY impressed.

If you want a decent 30mm scope for a lower price, that will work just fine (I have one of these on my 700 5R .308, and I can shoot lights-out with it)...Konus M-30 8.5-32x52. Only $350 from Midway, and comes with a 4" sunshade, and flip covers. However, the flip-covers kinda suck, so I'd sub them out with some Butler Creek ones, which I plan on doing soon.

As for load data.....No 2 guns are the same. You can have 2 identical guns in your hands, build by the same person back-to-back, and they will both like 2 different loads. You will just have to figure that one out once you get your gun. But I do reccomend the Nosler 7 reloading manual, and for hunting, I prefer the Nosler Accubonds, and for target shooting the Nosler Custom Competition bullets.

You might also want to look at the Remington 700 XCR Long Range Tactical in 300 Win. Mag. I like mine very well.

Re: 700P or Sendero

the sendero , 700p and 5-r are about the same gun. the 700P has is blued with a 26"bull barrel. the 5-r stainless with a 24" bull 5-r barrel. and the sendero is a 26" fluted stainless barrel unless you get one of the older blued ones. get the one you want. any would be a good choice.

Archer, both are amazingly accurate out of the box. I have both models you are inquiring about. I have a 700p in 7 mag, and it puts out lites all day. Same for the sendero in either caliber you pick, or that I have owned. I know where there is a MINT 700p in 300 win mag right now that is calling my name, but I'm in the middle of a custom build right now.
I have heard nothing but praise on the Vortex scopes. I like the Nikon Monarch higher end models myself. I still like/ love Leupold scopes, but I have a few Nikons that have witnessed a few whitetail encounters that didn't end well for the whitetail, so we' ll leave it at that. They are clear, and track well, and lifetime warranty as well. Optics are tough, very personal! Guns are more cut and dry!
