I have a heavy barrel 7 wsm that's 26" long but I want to cut it down to 22-23" and put it into a hunting stock.

Can it be done?

Will it still be accurate?

Yes in fact maybe more accurate with a short stout bbl like that,but you loose velocity/ How much could be a couple hundred feet or less.

Thanks, I guess I should do some calculations and make sure it still fits the need.

Sure... why not?

Any velocity loss will be small, and meaningless for hunting purposes, and the rifle will be lighter.

I wouldn't worry about a few fps velocity difference one way or another.

Had you thought about re contouring the barrel a little lighter ?

Most smiths could do it and you wouldn't loose anything but weight.

How much weight could come off it? The other issue is the end heaviness? Another issue is that I have the BOSS system on it and I would like to keep that, but I think it can be reinstalled correct?

Now if you re-contour the bbl after the fact you risk stressing the bbl . . And you want to re-install the boss ? What is the diameter of bbl now ?
