Re: 6.5 SS (Sherman Shortmag) Q@A

I think a 270 version would be a little slower than that, the 270 WSM will run those numbers on the top end and we see really even performance across many rifles but you drop the WSM case down to 6.5 and you see some one running a 140 in the 3100's and some able to run 3400, the sweet spot just is not as consistent in the WSM case at 6.5 as 270 or larger. This really influenced looking for the case in 6.5 that would give even top level performance, hence the 6.5 SS!

That's an interesting analogy. I have never owned a WSM so was estimating more on capacity. I have heard though that they are temperamental......... thanks/Rich

Rhian.....I just realized that you were probably referring to the 150's at 3300'? I had just answered a pm question and my 67 year old mind was still tuned in to that!.......Rich

Barrel life should be better than you expect. If you dont run it at top end pressures then 2500-3000 rounds should be quite doable. That information comes from what GAP is getting with the 6.5 4S which very similar. Thats with 140s at ~3150 fps I believe.

Rich, make me a .280 SS with Berger 180 Hybrids! I would go buy a 700 SA just for that build... Most likely a 28" Bartlein 5R 1:9 Rem Varmint contour would be wicked on there. Might even go with MTU contour...

+1 that'd be a wicked rifle and cartridge!
