Re: 6.5-284 velocities
Hello 10X
I have a 6.5/284 with a 30" Kreiger (8 twist) that likes 4831 SC and the Sierra 142 MK. The speed for 1000 yd compititions is right at 3000-3050 FPS depending on the charge I want to use. Sometimes I back it to 2950 and it shoots well. I could get more velocity at the expense of brass and wasted barrel steel.

Re: 6.5-284 velocities
10X,
As Darryl said, around 3,000 seems to be what people shoot for target. For hunting, I have heard of people shooting the 140's over 3200fps. I am having one built in a few months mostly for competition but for some long range whitetail as well.
I just can't decide which reamer to use. I am thinking about the .290 tight neck.

Re: 6.5-284 velocities
What barrel length do you have and what powder are you using?

Re: 6.5-284 velocities
barrel length is 27 inches and the powder i am using is ADI AR2209 .this is an australian powder the chart gives it as being close to winchester 760.....so the load is winchester cases reformed, remington primers, 50 grains of AR2209 with a sierra 140 grain match king.

Re: 6.5-284 velocities
You say you are getting 2880 FPS velocity. Considering your barrel is 27", right away the velocity would be 100 FPS faster with a 30" Barrel as compaired to the 27".
The 4831 SC seems to give us very good accuracy along with the 3000 to 3050 FPS velocities.
