338 Winchester

I was just wondering how consistently people have been able to push a 250 grain(any brand really) bullet out at 2700-2800 fps with this cartridge? If so, with what powder adn how accurate are these loads.

Re: 338 Winchester

Oops,
forgot to mention, these velocities would be out of a 24 or 26 inch barrel.
Thanks

My 338 win on a M70 action with a 26 " barrel . ran 250 gr partitions at 2700fps using IMR4350 ,my worked best at max loads and averaged at MOA . am having this gun rebarreled , and am looking forward in starting all over as a new rifle .

Re: 338 Winchester

With my Win M70 Classic 24" barrel with the Boss making it 26" I get right at 2700fps with H4831 and a 250gr Partition, averaging 1" or slightly better for 3 shots at 100yds.

Re: 338 Winchester

Thanks for the responses,
I just bought the Winchester Classic Sporter LT. It has a 26" barrel, and I'm thinking about putting a Vais break on it. Should be pretty interesting.

Re: 338 Winchester

I am looking at building one with a 27 or 28 inch barrel do you think I would be able to shoot a 185 around 3400fps and 225 around 3000 fps?
