Went out testing some more today and I have some good news and some bad.
The good news is that the 250 grain Lapua Scenars are shooting great and the best load has been found and tested several times now. Here is a 4 shot group I fired at 1000 yards this morning in good conditions. Normally I don't like to show my ugly mug, but I thought maybe it would give some reference to the size of the gong and the group. THis load was 90.2 grains of Rl22 and gave a velo of 3084 and an sd of 3!
The bad news:
The Scenars appear to be a very bad game bullet. Filled a box with newspapers and phonebooks and shot them into it at about 980 yards and here is the result:
As you can see, not much of a mushroom. The tip didn't even start to mushroom. It tumbled through the paper like a mad dog.
It went in this far:
And here is one bullet that skipped through the top of the newspapers and was sitting on top of the burm 20 yards back from the box. It is next to an unfired bullet of the same make.
Still no good!
Well, I did manage to get the 225 Accubonds up to and past 3300 fps today with good accuracy though. Time to start working with them I guess. Oh well, the Scenars were fun while they lasted but they obviously would not be good for elk so they're not good for me!
