338 questions

I am looking into building a rifle in .338 caliber but not a clue as to which cartridge. I have the specs on the Lapua (except usefull case capacity), RUM and the 338-378 Weatherby. Can someone send me a diagram with case dimensions and some load data (275gr and 300gr) on the 338 EDGE?

I like the Lapua and the RUM both being beltless, but the Weatherby has the edge on velocities (and the fact that I already have a 378 Weatherby action). Hodgdon and Weatherby both say that it will launch 275gr bullets up to 3244fps and 300 grainers at 2818fps.

The EDGE seems to be popular here, so tell me why you think so.

Purpose of the rifle will be long range hunting and mile+ target "plinking".

The girlfriend already said I can't get a 50BMG. (maybe can get a new girlfriend?)

Cool

Rocky

If you intend to shoot the 275gr and 300gr go with the 338/378
and in my opinion the 338 RUM would be my second choice.

Both will do the job and brass is available for both.

The wildcats are also very good but you gain very little for the effort.
( the gain may not be worth the pain ).

The 338 RUM can be biult on a standard mag bolt face where as
most others require larger bolt faces.

Rocky,

The standard Edge has 118 gr H2O capacity. It is no more difficult to build or load for than a 338 RUM and will push the 300 gr SMK easily to 2800 fps.
