338 Nosler Partitions - 2nd's

I've been working up a load for my 338 RUM which will be used in an upcoming moose hunt. The Nosler 250 Partition bullet was available as "seconds" for a good price so I thought it might be a good place to start.

Groups at 200 yds were rather impressive for a non-target bullet so I moved out to the 300 yd line which is as far as you can shoot big bore at my club.

Below are the results of two different loads that did well ...... actually much better than I would have hoped for in a Partition bullet at that range.

Looks like my search for a good moose hunting load is over.

Re: 338 Nosler Partitions - 2nd's

The nosler seconds don't seem to be bad. I'm running the 140 bt seconds in my 7mmstw as a paper bullet as they are less than 1/2 the price of the accubond and shoot nearly identically on paper. I do clear the flashing off the plastic tip before I load 'em though. I'll have to try the partitions of they have any in weights/cal's I shoot I guess.

In any case, good groups.

Great shooting!!! I never knew partition could shoot that well.

Oddly enough, they shot better than the 225, 250 & 300 Accubonds which I figured would be top performers. Non of the Barnes TSX bullets were even in the race.

If the 250 Partitions (2nds) weren't available at such a good price I wouldn't have even considered them. Happily, the B/C isn't all that bad and the drops match the holdover lines in the Leupold 4.4x14 out to 500 yds pretty well.

While I never was a believer in shooting Nosler "seconds", I've just been converted. I bought a pile of .375 300gr Partitions to try in my 375 Ruger.
