338/408?

Just curious if anyone has put together a 338/408CT rig set up for the 350gr wildcat bullets. Should be a monster.

Re: 338/408?

Kman338,

My 338 Allen Magnum will be using the 350 gr ULD RBBTs. I have a decent supply of the older Wildcat 350s ready for testing.

My 338 AM is basically a 338-408 CT Improved if you will.

I have the barrel, stock, bullets and brass. Just waiting for the damn BAT receiver to get here so I can build the rifle.

The standard 338-408 is supposed to get 3400 fps with a 300 gr SMK with a 140 gr load of H-50BMG in a 35" barrel. I am looking to get 3500 fps with the same weight bullet but more importantly I want 3300 fps with the 350 gr ULD RBBT.

I suspect we will get it with the added capacity of the AM over the standard chambering.

Again, as soon as that receiver gets here there will be a full report posted here.

Good Shooting!!

Re: 338/408?

I dont know if many of you have run the numbers on the expectations of this round, but:
With 3300fps muzzle vel and 350 gr bullet w/.788 BC(?)
At 1000 yds:
2300+ fps
and
4200+ FOOT POUNDS OF ENERGY
I had to run it a few times to make sure the thing wasn't lying to me!!
HOLY CRAP THATS A LOT OF ENERGY!!
Me likes lots!!!

Who's the man to build this gun? I've got the money saved up to build. Any info would be great.

Re: 338/408?

With all the tests i have done in my rifle with the 35" bbl,
143grns of HBMG50 3400fps is all i could get and the bolt was hard to open, i loaded some up to 147grns but pulled the bullets. I made a new beefier action to see if there is any difference. The Water Cap in mine is 167grns of H2O.
