.308 vs .338 expansion at short range

Which of the bullets listed in the table below have you known to expand quickly on impact with soft tissue (not bone or thick hide) at 2900 fps or higher?

Also, what would you consider a significant gain in ballistic coefficient?

cal grains type bc difference
0.308 200 ab 0.588
0.338 250 gk 0.565 0.023
0.308 200 gk 0.560 0.005

0.308 190 btsp il 0.491 0.01
0.338 215 gk 0.485 0.006
0.338 225 speer btsp 0.484 0.001
0.308 200 part 0.481 0.003
0.308 180 ib/sst il 0.480 0.001
0.308 165 sst 0.447 0.033
0.338 225 ib/sst il 0.430 0.017
0.338 200 bst 0.414 0.016

Sorry about the busy table. It turns out the same no matter how it looks in the editing field.

From quickly looking over that list I would say every one of them would open up quickly on soft tissue impacts at close range. Not a hard bullet in the bunch.

Kirby is right on but make sure you don't accidently hit bone or heavy scapula's at close range with some of those bullets. Its difficult when the animal is running.

Here is a picture of a 200 lb 9 pt WT deer I haot at 40 yds with my 338 RUM and a 250 gr Nosler PT. The buck reared up and spun around 180 degrees and fell over dead. No major bones were hit, just a rib in and out with an exit hole the size of a quarter.

Note the scent rag hanging on the branch.
