Re: .308 grouping problem

I have two loads you might try 47 grains RL-15 sierra 180 spitzer, 43 grains 4064 with 165 ballistic tips, 1/2" less 100 yards for me. I know they arent probably the fastest on the block but they work for me 1970' Mod.70 308.

Go buy a factory box of Federal Gold Medal Match bullets with the 168 gr. Sierra Match King Bullets. Shoot some groups with these bullets. If they don't group close to one hole groups, the problem probably isn't your reloads.
This is the best advice yet. I just did it with my 308 Rem 700P. It wouldn't group at all but when the 168 Federal Gold medal Match bullets were shot in it the ave group size was .535".

Re: .308 grouping problem

If you're set on trying a reload, try 43.4 gr Reloader 15 with the Sierra 168 gr. Match King seated to 2.80" OAL with a CCI 200 primer. That's as close to the Gold Medal Match factory round as I've been able to get.

I concur. You need a good baseline with quality factory ammo.

It would appear from the information provided that your load development method is sketchy at best. You seem to be changing too many variables all at once.

I fully expect most any factory rifle to shoot MOA or better at 100yds with Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr ammo. Many will shoot bugholes with this ammo.

No disrespect intended. But, we don't know anything about you, your rifle, or your shooting setup.

Have you ever shot tiny groups with anything?

Have you ever shot tiny groups with this rifle?

Have you ever handloaded ammo that's shot tiny groups?

We all have to start somewhere. It's just not clear where you are in the process.
