.300wm ballistic performance

So what is this round good for?How does it compare with the likes of 7mm mag, 7mmRUM, 300RUM, .308 for downrange precision? What would be the maximum range youd feel confident the bullet can do its job on an elk, moose, mountain goat or deer?

Re: .300wm ballistic performance

well A LOT of the military LR shooting teams shoot this caliber...

the 190, 200 and 220 will do any of the listed animals under 400 lbs to 1000 yards and the Elk or Moose to 500+ easily....

Re: .300wm ballistic performance

As far as downrange precision goes, the 300 Win Mag has held more records than just about anything. It is a very competitive LR round.

It is very good with the 190-220 bullets so that gives you a lot of latitude on what game. Much more than 7mm Mag in most peoples opinion.

Will not knock the slobber out of you either like the RUMs will with most people in hunting weight guns, ie 8lbs or so.

Recoil is managable for most people in hunting weight rifles.

308 is marginal as hunting gun over 600 yards on anything deer sized comparitively to the others. Not a lot of margin of error and trajectory and wind drift kills you compared to others.

Re: .300wm ballistic performance

would recoil with the 300wm round with say a 200 grain bullet in a 10lbs braked rifle be : MORE, slightly more, even, less or LESS than with an 8.5 pounds remmy 7600 shooting 180 grain 30-06 bullets?

Re: .300wm ballistic performance

Since it has the brake, it will kick about the same as or slightly less than than the Rem7600.
